Mobile applications (apps) markets, such as Google Play Store and Apple App Store, with millions of users, have become immensely competitive for app developers. Consequently, developers should leverage data science into their app development and maintenance cycle in order to better understand the competition and user demands. Besides, the availability of a huge number of apps and feedback provided by app users provide researchers and developers with a great opportunity for crowdsourcing, data mining, and training the machine.

The international workshop on Data Science for Mobile Apps (DS4MA) brings together researchers and practitioners from both academia and industry to share new ideas, solutions, approaches, observations, tools, approaches, and techniques. We welcome submissions addressing topics in the area of mobile apps including but not limited to:

  • Utilizing user feedback into app development and maintenance process
  • Analysis of natural language of user feedback
  • Analysis of star ratings and app rankings
  • Extracting bug reports and feature requests from user feedback
  • Identifying uninformative and/or auto/generated user feedback
  • Analysis of trend in the number of downloads and app use
  • Analysis of app data to improve software reliability and productivity
  • Analysis of development and app release patterns
  • Release engineering and identifying best practices of app release
  • Analysis of app description and release notes
  • Analysis of cross-ecosystem app development
  • Approaches, applications, and tool for mining user feedback and other artifacts in app markets
  • Analysis of malware, ads, and defects in apps
  • Analysis of bias in mining app data to ensure the quality of results
  • Analysis of open source app data and comparison with proprietary app data
  • Mining human and social aspects of app development
  • Mining app licensing and copyrights
  • Models of app evolution based on historical data
  • Analysis of the fairness of app markets for app developers and users
  • Visualization techniques and models of mined data
  • Analysis of source code, manifest files, and byte codes
  • Prediction and modeling of app quality
  • Privacy and ethics in mining app data
